When a farmer or farm labourer commits suicide, in almost all cases his family is left with no income. The first impulse is take the children out of school and put them to work anywhere they can bring home a few rupees a day. Working instead of going to school means that the children are condemned to lifelong hand-to-mouth existence as daily-wagers.
A donation of Rs 15,600 will support an ENTIRE FAMILY for an ENTIRE YEAR.
Through RESCUE & REVIVAL, families of suicide victims receive monthly assistance on the condition that all the school-age children of the family remain in school. A donor is given the photograph, name and address (phone number too if available) of the a family he or she adopts so that they can check in on the family from time to time if they wish.
An annual donation of Rs 15,600 supports a family of one or two children.
An annual donation of Rs 23,400 supports a family of three or more children.
This sum pays for the children's education and provides sustenance to the family for one year.
Of this, 20 percent go for administrative costs

BNES investigates and fully recods cases of rural suicide taking affidavits from village panchayats for verification of debtrelated suicide

Availing of goverment help if diffcult BNES help victim families get state welfare pensions to which they are entitled .These pensions are small,but even small amounts can mean the difference between hope and despair and save family from the trauma of second or third even suicides

BNES pressures state and central goverments to rehabilites families of suicide victims and remove the causes of rural distress that drive people to take their own lives

Jasmer Singh Jaijee College
Jasmer Singh Jaijee College, founded by Aman Sidhu in 2004, has expanded steadily. Before 2004, Moonak & Lehra Subdivisions of district Sangrur had no degree college.
The college functions in a newly constructed building on a 12-acre campus just outside Gurney Kalan in Lehra tehsil of District Sangrur. Fees are waived for children of suicide victims. Some donors have directly provided scholarships for nursing training and law college.
Generous donations have enabled the college to construct an auditorium and athletic facilities, including a stadium.
The college takes no aid from the government; it meets its expenses entirely out of fees and assistance from donors. Jasmer Singh Jaijee College is affiliated to Punjabi University and offers BA, B Com, M Com, BCA, PGDCA, M.Sc-IT, MA (Punjabi). Staff strength now stands at 20.
In addition to academics, the college organises many extra-curricular activities. Students are very active in the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
2020 - the 'Coronavirus Year' - was difficult for all colleges, so it is a matter of great satisfaction that Jasmer Singh Jaijee College has weathered the storm. Although funds have been tight, not one teacher has been retrenched. Rather, the college has gone forward with small projects such as tree-plantation and campus beautification. Now regular classes have begun again and exams will be held on schedule. Plans for 2021 include addition of a collegiate wing that will admit +1 and +2 students with college ambitions. We will also be relocating and improving the college canteen.
